The existence of the S&P500 is meant to represent the core of the overall economy by including firms from all major categories of life and business. Firms in this index have been there, done that, making them reliable over time to achieve more success to outweigh any failures along the journey. While the "tril" elites are tracked by all, the larger half of firms in the S&P500 not only need to over achieve the average, but to lean-in to strength and double-down in times of weakness.

Achieving $1 billion valuation is obviously an amazing milestone. FirstRound.com says there is a 0.00006% chance of a company achieving this valuation. Plus or minus 1,000 public and roughly half of the estimated 1,200 privately held companies have attained a financing valuing their firm +ONE-B! Attaining this level is one (major) thing, but sustaining it is a life's work with little room for error...since the benchmark, in part at least, is valuation.
